I knitted and felted the clutch and I think it turned out well. Here it is before felting: Oh, well, it seems I deleted the before photos from our camera before uploading them. I'll post them if I find them.

And here it is after:
Not too bad. I will get some vintage buttons for it when I'm in PA in July. I'm thinking of making one for my best friend in black with cool silvery/sparkly buttons. It may also be what my One Skein secret pal gets in August.

Speaking of the One Skein Secret Pal, my pal got her package yesterday and loved it. I'm so glad as this is the first swap/secret pal thing I've participated in. Here is the yarn I sent her:
It is called "Warmth" and is from Katie at Bunglow Buns. I really liked the colors and thought it would appeal to my pal because she likes autumnal colors. She's thinking of making a pair of mittens with it. I'm still waiting to hear from my pal. I hope a package comes this week. Nothing like getting surprises in the mail.

Currently, I am attempting the Baby Bolero from the One Skein book. It is only the second sweater I've ever done and the first that is not one piece, so needless to say, I'm learning a lot as I go. I'll post photos soon.

The Manos still sits on the dining room table and I contemplate whether it would be a waste to felt it into a bowl. Maybe I'll make something else. Something wearable...any ideas for 2 skeins?

what can a beginning knitter do with such beautiful yarn?

This weekend one of the local yarn stores was having an anniversary sale and you could get 20% off any one item. I went in with the idea to get yarn to make the "clutch you'll never give up" from One Skein. They didn't have the yarn it calls for in the book, so I asked what I could substitute. First I was shown some lovely, but pricey, alpaca. I liked the yarn, but thought it would not show itself off best as a felted purse. Then she showed me some Cascade 220 and said I could double the strands and get the gauge. Good idea. Then she showed me the Manos del Uraguay. Wow! Beautiful stuff. I instantly gravitated towards a magenta skein and then a coordinating multi with purples, magenta, and blues (#107). Yum! Again, thought it would be almost a shame to felt it. I'd love to make something to wear out of it, I said. She showed me to the pattern books. I looked at a lot of things and found a sleeveless shell that looked like I might be able to do it. Totally wrong for the Manos yarn however. So I scrapped that plan and went to the Cascade for the clutch and got two skeins of a pretty purply/magenta color . Still loved the Manos though.... So ended up getting two skeins of it and will either think of something to do with it later or will make the felted bowl from the One Skein book. The colors are perfect for our dining room which is a deep purple. Right now the skeins are sitting in a silver bowl on the dining room table (see above photo). Well, I started this post about a week ago, so I guess it is time to publish it. The clutch is almost done, just need to bind off and sew and felt. I'm excited to see how it turns out as it will be my first felting project. Photos when it's done.

first post

Well, I guess it was bound to happen, I've ventured into the blogworld. I have no idea how often I will post or if I will continue to post, but I thought it would be worth having a blog, especially as a way to share photos of Clara and my knitting/sewing/quilting projects for friends and online projects.
